BANGALORE: These are the times when young men and women with good family background are finding it difficult to get a good match. But two women, both orphans who found their life partners, tied the knot at a simple function here on Thursday.

The Reception Centre of the Women and Child Development Department played the matchmaker. The traditional yet simple ceremony was held at a temple on the centre's premises. The occasion saw another couple that tied the knot on November 30 host a reception.

Jaya Jasmine (18), Chaya Devi (19) and Kavitha Reddy (21) were the three lucky women who were able to find a match. Jaya, hailing from Nelyadi in Dakshina Kannada district, lost her parents and joined the centre after completing SSLC. Umapathy, who married Jaya, owns a shop and has a decent income. His mother works for the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

Chaya too was orphaned upon her parents' death and grew with her maternal uncle. But circumstances forced her to join the centre.

The person who tied the knot to Chaya was none other than her maternal uncle Muniyappa.

He lives in New Tippasandra and undertakes petty contract works to lead the life.

Kavita, hailing from Gulbarga and H.N. Manjunath got married on November 30. Manjunath, a resident of Hessaraghatta, works in a private firm. Minister for Women and Child Development H.K. Kumaraswamy, who blessed the couple, said the Government offered Rs. 7,000 financial help to the couple.

Also, the couple could get loans from banks under the Prime Minister's Rehabilitation Programme, he said.

Officials of the centre told The Hindu that they would verify the antecedents of aspiring grooms, including their income, health and social status, before recommending their case to the department for granting permission for marriage.
