Elephant kills man at Gottigere

BANGALORE: Thirty-five year-old Srinivasulu Naidu, a construction worker, was killed by an elephant near K.K. Sharief Estate at Gottigere in Bannerghatta police station limits on Thursday afternoon.

It was around 2.45 p.m. when Naidu and about 50 others heard about the birth of an elephant calf close to the estate.

They rushed to the grove where a herd of 20 elephants were standing guard. The herd was perturbed by the entry of the big crowd, and charged at them.

Taken aback by this, people started running for cover. In the process, Naidu fell and one of the elephants pierced his chest with its tusk, the police said. The victim died on the spot. Naidu was a native of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh and had come to Gottigere in Anekal taluk three months ago. He was married to Kalyani and had a daughter, Varalakshmi. The Bannerghatta police have taken up a case of unnatural death.

Murdered

The security guard of a Rajasthani marble showroom in Varthur was found murdered on Thursday morning. The victim, Surendar Singh (26), had apparently bled to death after the assailants struck his neck with a sharp weapon.

The showroom owner had locked the place and gone home on Tuesday night. He was the first to find the body on Thursday morning, the police said. The Varthur police have taken up a case of murder.
