Tsunami aid for differently-abled

Mannargudi: A sum of Rs. 1.5 crore has been disbursed as tsunami relief to 1,500 differently abled persons in Tiruvarur district, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin said here on Monday.

He distributed benefits to the tune of Rs. 15.22 lakh to 3,675 persons under various schemes at a function here. He said that under tsunami relief, Rs. 7.54 crore has been disbursed as revolving fund to 150 women self-help groups.

The Minister distributed two acres of free land to 380 persons. The total value of the land distributed was Rs. 16 lakh. In total, Mr. Stalin distributed 127 acres of land. He said that the Government implemented 33 per cent reservation in the recently concluded local body elections. Free gas connections and gas stoves will be distributed on `Bhogi' day. Fifteen lakh television sets will be distributed free to the people, he added.

U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development and Shambu Kallolikar, Tiruvarur Collector, participated in the meeting.
