Baby run over by school bus

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: An 18-month-old boy was crushed under the wheels of a mini school bus in front of his house at Patel Nagar in New Gadiannaram on Monday morning.

M. B. Dinku, son of Sridhar Rao, was waiting with his grandmother Lalamma for the school bus, which was to pick up his elder brother Saketh, an LKG student, to Loyola Convent High School in Saroornagar.

Driver flees

After Saketh boarded the bus, driver Narayana drove the vehicle without noticing Dinku, who was playing in front of it. The toddler came under the front wheel and died on the spot.

The driver fled the scene, said Saroornagar SI P. Venkateswarlu.

"It all happened within seconds. The bus mowed down my grandson even before I tried to pull him out when neighbours raised an alarm," Lalamma wept inconsolably while narrating the incident to the police.

Killed in accident

In a separate accident, a software engineer died after a truck hit his motorcycle near Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar bus stop on Sunday.

L. Chiranjeevi (22) was on the way to his house at Kukatpally Housing Board Colony when the truck came from the rear and rammed into his motorcycle.

Passers-by shifted him to a corporate hospital where he died later.
