HYDERABAD: The Traffic Police on Monday announced that stern action would be taken against motorists who were not wearing helmets and seatbelts and using cell phone while driving. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A. K. Khan, in a press release here, said over 3.91 lakh cases were registered against motorists for not wearing headgear, 1.15 lakh cases for not wearing seatbelt and 31,452 cases for cell phone driving.
Punitive action
Hereafter, punitive action under Section 279 of IPC (six months of imprisonment or with fine which may extend to Rs.1, 000 or both) and Section 336 of IPC (three months imprisonment or with fine of Rs.250 or both) would be taken for the registered cases . In all 3.05 lakh cases were booked against vehicle owners for parking their vehicles at no parking zones.
