UDF plans people's meet

KOCHI: The United Democratic Front (UDF) will organise a people's convention on Saturday in protest against stopping the removal of garbage in the city. The convention, to be held at Maharaja's College Auditorium at 4 p.m., will be inaugurated by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy.

KSEB workers' dharna today

KOCHI: The Kerala State Electricity Board Workers Federation, affiliated to AITUC, will hold a dharna on Wednesday on the premises of the KSEB Chief Engineer's Office at Vyttila. This is part of the federation's decision to hold dharnas at regional centres, including Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, demanding to start talks on the wage revision. — Staff Reporter

Malayali athletes return

NEDUMBASSERY: Malayali athletes K.M. Binu and P.S. Sreejith who were part of the Indian relay team, which won the silver medal in 4x400 m at the just concluded Doha Asian Games, returned home on Tuesday evening without any fanfare. They arrived at the Cochin International Airport on a Jet Airways flight from Delhi by around 4 p.m. Two other Malayali athletes Aboo Backer Thanikkal and Joseph Abraham were also part of the medal winning team.

Books for libraries

KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has launched a scheme to buy books for libraries coming under the corporation limits, which have the recognition of the Kerala State Library Council. The project called `Library Complex' comes under the Kerala Vikasana Padhathi. Thirty libraries in the corporation limits and six libraries of the corporation will get books under this scheme.
