ANANTAPUR: Negligence on part of officials in conducting the Research Common Entrance Test (RESCET-2006) of Sri Krishnadevaraya University led to cancellation of the test on Wednesday.

The entrance test was cancelled after student unions alleged irregularities in the setting of question papers and issuance of hall tickets. Holding the officials of the Directorate of Examinations responsible for the fiasco, the university authorities removed in-charge Director Krishna Naik and Deputy Director Y. Ramana Reddy. It is proposed to conduct the entrance test again a month later. The entrance test for science groups in the forenoon was held normally in spite of problems. The candidates alleged that at least five questions were not visible properly as the question papers were the photocopies of the manuscripts of the question papers set by professors.

NSUI protest

Activists of NSUI staged a protest half-an-hour before the commencement of the entrance test for arts groups in the afternoon. The students, led by Ch. Rami Reddy, alleged that instead of getting the question papers set by the subject professors of three different universities the papers were set in the university itself.

Besides, the question papers were leaked during the making of photo copies and a few questions also had the partly visible ticks on correct choice of the multiple choice questions, though they were removed.

The problem would not have arisen had the authorities gone for type setting of the question papers as was the normal practice in other universities.
