NEW DELHI: Lt. Gen. Deepak Kapoor will take over as the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff from January 1 next year, the Army headquarters announced here on Sunday. In other senior-level appointments all due to take effect from January 1, Lt. Gen. K. S. Jamwal will head the Army's Eastern Command, Lt. Gen. H.S. Panag will head the Northern Command and Lt. Gen. M.L. Naidu the Army Training Command, (ARTRAC) Shimla. Gen. Kapoor is presently the General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Northern Command and has commanded the 22 Infantry Division based at Meerut and 33 Corps at Sukhna in West Bengal. Gen. Panag is presently the GoC of the 21 Corps and has commanded armoured and infantry brigades. He was also the Additional Director General (Perspective Planning). Gen. Jamwal is presently the GoC of ARTRAC and has commanded a desert corps. He has also served as the Additional Director of Staff Duties and done a stint with the Defence Research & Development Organisation. Gen. Naidu is presently the Commandant of the Army War College, Mhow. He was the Military Attaché in Germany and has headed the 4 Infantry Division based at Allahabad. He has also had stints with the Leh-based 14 Corps and the Military Operations Directorate at the Army headquarters here. Gen. Kapoor and Gen. Jamwal are from the Regiment of Artillery, Gen. Naidu from the Rajput Regiment and Gen. Panag from the Mechanised Infantry.
