BANGALORE: Embroidery work in various hues from Jammu and Kashmir to wooden handicrafts from the North East and the famed inlay works from Karnataka are among a large number of handicrafts on display at Handicrafts Expo. Projecting the rich Indian art and culture to the larger audience are some of the less known products.The handicrafts expo, organised by the Textile Ministry, presents an array of products from States, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and the North Eastern States.
Choices
The terracotta items, handicrafts in various shapes and sizes made out of wood and metal, traditional paintings on wood pulp and many more could give a wide range of choices for those interested in re-furbishing homes. Saris and dress materials made in traditional designs and raw materials along with a wide range of junk jewellery on display give a chance to improve the wardrobe.
Platform
P. Sundaramurthy, Regional Director (South), office of the Handicrafts Commissioner, said the exhibition of handicrafts and handlooms had been organised to provide a platform for the artisans to sell their wares directly to consumers without associating themselves with the middlemen.
Tastes
Besides, he said, artisans could prepare handicrafts products according to the tastes of consumers. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa inaugurated the exhibition at the Princess Academy Palace Grounds on Wednesday. Minister for Small Savings and Lotteries Ramachandra Gowda and Chairperson and Managing Director of Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation (KHDC) L. Shanthakumari were present on the occasion. The exhibition is open till January 10.
