Plea to power users

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Power Diploma Engineers' Association has appealed to agricultural power consumers, to refrain from attacking and damaging properties of power utilities in the State.

In a press release, association secretary-general P. Beesi Reddy said that with the heavy demand on the grid, the administration was unable to provide full supply to consumers. Farmers going on the warpath would only hit the long-term interests, he said. — Staff Reporter

Farmer electrocuted

ANANTAPUR: A farmer of N.P. Kunta, Hussain, 42, was electrocuted on his way to agriculture fields on Thursday. According to the police, he came in contact with a live wire installed by another farmer to save his crop from wild boars . — Staff Reporter

Gadar's demand

HYDERABAD: Balladeer Gadar has alleged that the top Maoist leader Wadkapur Chandramouli was shot dead in a fake encounter by the police in Visakhapatnam. In a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Gadar demanded that the Government order a probe by a Supreme Court judge into the killing. — Special Correspondent

Hacked to death

KURNOOL: A mine owner, V. Brahma Rudra Reddy, was hacked to death at Bandarupalli near Kolimigundla in Kurnool district on Wednesday. According to reports, the assailants attacked him with sickles when he was returning home after nightfall. — Special Correspondent

V-C of Vedic varsity

TIRUPATI: Sannidhanam Sudarsana Sarma, a professor of Sahitya and Samskrithi at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, has been appointed the first Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara Vedic University, newly formed under the TTD umbrella. Prof. Sarma got gold medal in M.A. (Sanskrit) from Osmania University and Acharya (M.A.) in Yajurveda from Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi. He also received a doctorate in Veda from Andhra University. — Staff Reporter

Death anniversary

KURNOOL: The 377th death anniversary of Sufi saint Hazrath Syed Shah Abdul Lateef Laubali will be marked between December 29 and 31. The tomb of the saint at Khadakpura here has been spruced up for the occasion. Syed Hashim Arif Pasha Quadri, Sajjada-e-Nasheen will officiate the function. - Special Correspondent
