CHENNAI: The Lions International District 324 A5 and the Vintage and Classic Vehicles Foundation, Chennai, are organising a vintage car and super bike rally on January 7. This is being held in view of the Road Safety Week, K. Ranganaathan, district governor, told The Hindu on Thursday. The rally will begin from Besant Nagar Beach and proceed to Anna Nagar Tower, covering nearly 24 km. It will be flagged off by Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan and by Mayor M. Subramanian. The rally will halt at 10 places along the route. Music bands have been organised at the halt-points to gather a crowd and distribute pamphlets. The idea behind a vintage car rally was to catch the attention of the people, S. Seran, district chairperson, Lions Road Safety Programme, said. Ram Viswanathan, secretary, Vintage and Classic Vehicles Foundation, said that more than 65 antique vehicles of pre-1959 models from Bangalore, Madurai, Puducherry and Chennai, had registered. Minister K.N. Nehru would distribute prizes at the closing ceremony.
