NEW DELHI: Higher external commercial borrowings (ECBs), larger deposits from non-resident Indians (NRIs) along with a rise in short-term debt pushed up India's overall external debt by 3.3 per cent or $4.3 billion to $ 136.5 billion in September from $132.2 billion at the end of June 2006, a Finance Ministry statement said here on Friday.
