Effigies burnt in Bhopal

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: Effigies of U.S. President George Bush were burnt in demonstrations held by political parties here on Saturday to protest against the execution of the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

A large number of people, mostly Muslims, staged protests in old Bhopal. Around 11.30 a.m., people from the minority community assembled in the Moti Masjid area. Soon students from a madrasa joined them. In nearby Itwara, the Communist Party of India held a demonstration. Some activists carried placards reading Insaaniyat ka dushman George Bush (George Bush is the enemy of humanity), while some others kicked and trampled on a burning effigy. The protesters raised anti-Bush slogans.
