Imphal: The Manipur Government has reserved 17 per cent of government jobs for minorities and Other Backward Classes (OBC), official sources saidon Saturday.

The decision to reserve jobs for these categories was taken during a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh on Wednesday, the sources said. As per the Government decision, four per cent of government jobs had been reserved for Manipuri Muslims and 12.5 per cent for OBCs Meiteis, Meitei Brahmin, Meitei Sanamahi, Meitei Rajkumar and the Non-Scheduled Caste Loi community. The sources said .50 per cent of jobs would be reserved for domicile communities such as Badi Nepali, Damai Nepali, Gaire Nepali and Kami Nepali who had started living in Manipur from July 9, 1947. The reservation of jobs in government and government-controlled bodies would also apply to educational and professional institutions in the State. PTI
