Speed Post extended to 18 more towns

NEW DELHI: Speed Post service has been extended to 18 more towns in the national network from Monday. The new centres, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, are Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), Bhilai, Korba, Raigarh (all Chattisgarh), Valsad (Gujarat), Bokaro (Jharkhand), Guna, Satna, Sehore (Madhya Pradesh), Chandrapur, Jalgaon, Wardha (Maharashtra), Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Bikaner, Pilani (Rajasthan), Kashipur, Haridwar (Uttaranchal) and Malda (West Bengal).

Besides being fully computerised with `Speednet' tracking system, these centres will also have a customer service centre and Speed Post Business Office.

Speed Post was started by the Department of Posts in August 1986 to provide time-bound and express delivery of letters and parcels to the customers and has since continued to be the market leader in the express industry with a market share of 27.55 per cent, according to a survey.
