Anniversary of firing incident

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: The Kisan Adivasi Sangathan and the Samajwadi Jan Parishad, two activist groups working among the tribals of Hoshangabad district, will observe on Tuesday the first anniversary of the incident at Kalinganagar, Orissa, in which 12 tribals were killed in police firing.

They will organise a boat rally in the Tawa reservoir and announce the next phase of their "Satyagraha" to assert their rights on Jal-jungle-jameen" (water, forest and land).

January 2 is being observed as "Anti-displacement Day' across the country and the tribals of Hoshangabad district have decided to announce steps for securing their rights.

A joint statement here on Monday said villagers in the Satpura Tiger Reserve were being denied their traditional rights to graze cattle or collect minor forest produce and firewood.
