Congress leader killed

NALGONDA: Congress leader and former sarpanch of Yarkaram in Suryapet mandal Midde Ravinder (36) was murdered on Tuesday. According to the police a group of people waylaid Ravinder in Yarkaram and attacked him while he riding a two-wheeler. The victim was allegedly involved in attacks against some Telugu Desam leaders in the past. - Staff Reporter

MP writes to Manmohan on IIT

HYDERABAD: S. Sudhakar Reddy, CPI MP, has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to reconsider the Government's decision to set up an IIT in Medak district and shift it to Basar. Convoy of MLA, Collector blocked

KADAPA: Farmers blocked the convoy of Mydukur MLA D.L. Ravindra Reddy and District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu at an electrical sub-station at Pullareddipet in Duvvur mandal here on Wednesday seeking proper power supply. The Collector assured farmers that steps would be taken to ensure proper power supply to farmers. Cotton farmers stage rasta roko

ADILABAD: Cotton farmers staged a rasta-roko at Punjab chowk here for over two hours disrupting vehicular traffic on the NH 7 on Wednesday. The farmers were agitated because of the alleged denial of minimum support price by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI).

The farmers said they were being offered Rs. 1,980 per quintal of cotton against the MSP of Rs. 2,010.

ADILABAD: Three officials and a watchman of the Mahagaon Ashrama school in Sirpur (U) mandal were suspended on Wednesday by ITDA Project Officer Saurabh Gaur in connection with the suicide of Class X student on Tuesday. A police case was registered against School Assistant K. Nago Rao on charge of sexual harassment.

Jailed for murder bid

ELURU: Additional Assistant Sessions Judge V.R.K. Krupasagar on Wednesday sentenced a farmer Abburi Subba Rao of Kondalaraopalem under Pedavegi police station limits to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment for making an attempt on the life of his neighbour B. Ramakrishna.

According to the prosecution, Subba Rao attacked the victim with an axe and inflicted multiple injuries on his body. A petty clash led to the attack. Staff Reporter

YSR's tour programme

Srikakulam: The itinerary of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has been finalised, according to a press release issued by Collector V.N. Vishnu.

He will reach Palasa-Kasibugga nagar panchayt on January 7 and inaugurate the municipal office by 8.30 a.m. After distribution of assets to the beneficiaries, Dr. Reddy will reach Srikakulam by helicopter by 10.30 a.m. and review progress of works under all departments. - Special Correspondent
