BANGALORE: Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy on Wednesday said that teachers should take special care in educating children though they faced numerous problems.

The Minister was speaking after giving away Teachers' Awards 2007 instituted by Book Paradise, a bookstore, here.

Five teachers were honoured with the awards. They are G.B. Padmavathi, government school, Devaraj Urs Colony, Mysore (primary school); S.G. Gadag, Sri Chennabasaveshwara Composite PU College, Aralikatti, Dharwad district (secondary school); B. Prabhakara Shishila, professor of economics, Nehru Memorial College, Sullia, Dakshina Kannada (degree-non technical); V.B. Naragund, professor, College of Agriculture, Bheemarayanagudi, Gulbarga district (degree-technical), and Asima Banu, assistant professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology, Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Bangalore (postgraduate).

Each award comprises Rs. 10,000 in cash and a citation.

Writers Ham. Pa. Nagarajaiah and Kamala Hampana and Book Paradise partners M.S. Venkatesh and M.S. Jaiprakash were present on the occasion.
