Others suspend agitation

Thiruvananthapuram: Doctors of Government Medical Colleges in the State who were threatening to go on an indefinite strike have decided to temporarily suspend their strike till Monday, said a spokesperson of the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA). The decision was taken following discussions between KGMCTA representatives and Health Secretary Vishwas Mehta late Wednesday night.

The doctors who had gone on a day's strike on Wednesday in all MCHs joined for work on Thursday. However, the doctors at Kottayam MCH were likely to continue their strike till Saturday, when the KGMCTA was expected to hold talks with the Health Minister, sources said. The Government promised to conduct an inquiry into the role of senior local police officials who the doctors alleged had acted in undue haste to arrest the doctor without inquiry.
