Preserve Bobbili poll material, says court

HYDERABAD: Justice G. Rohini of the High Court on Thursday directed the authorities to preserve all the material used in the election held recently to fill the Bobbili Parliamentary seat. The judge was admitting a writ petition filed by Appala Naidu, TDP candidate, who lost the election to Congress candidate Jhansi Rani. - Legal Correspondent

NIMS probe into professor's `action'

HYDERABAD: Director of NIMS D. Prasada Rao has said that action will be taken against microbiology professor who, on Wednesday, allegedly ill-treated Minister Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, if she is found guilty in the inquiry. The Minister complained to Health Minister K. Rosaiah who ordered the inquiry. - Special Correspondent

Non-judicial days

HYDERABAD: The High Court has notified that the first and third Saturdays of every month will be non-judicial working days for subordinate courts in the State. This notification was issued on Wednesday following a representation by the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh. Couple ends life

NALGONDA: A couple — Nandyala Narsi Reddy, 27, and Gurram Saritha, 22, — has allegedly committed suicide following a tiff at Indugula in Tipparthy mandal. Following a quarrel with his wife, Reddy consumed some pesticide on Wednesday. Upset over this, Saritha, too, consumed a pesticide. - Staff Reporter

Engineer's body found

SRIKAKULAM: The decomposed body of P. Madhusudana Rao, Superintending Engineer (R&B), who boarded Falaknuma Express at Srikakulam road station on December 28, was found near Tadepalligudem station in West Godavari district on Wednesday. Cause of his death is still not known. - Special Correspondent

TTD's free mass marriages

SANGAREDDY: Applications for free marriages offered by the TTD would be made available at all mandal revenue offices and TTD Kalyanamandapam managers in the district. According to a press release here today the District collector B.Venkatesam has asked persons interested to file their applications on or before January 30. EMRI spreads its wings

SANGAREDDY: The EMRI service launched in the district seven months ago has provided services to 1,419 cases, so far. While 556 cases are medical in nature, 862 are police cases and one caused by fire. The District Collector who launched the `108 service' to remote areas, called upon people to participate in the mission by calling the designated number to save precious lives. He wanted the EMRI organisation to offer better services with 15 newly inducted ambulances.-Staff Reporter

Dharna staged

SANGAREDDY: Poor women belonging to Gajwel town organised a dharna in front of the local MRO office protesting against omission of their names in the first list of beneficiaries for land. However the MRO clarified that utmost care has been taken in selecting the women and some more would be covered in the second phase. Free cancer test

NIZAMABAD: Pragati Hospitals in association with Kamineni Hospitals, Hyderabad will conduct a free cancer detection camp at the Indian Medical Association hall here on January 6.

A team of doctors led by a noted Oncologist of Kamineni Dr. Sravan Kumar will examine patients from 9 am to 2 pm. For women, a pap smear test will be conducted free of cost, according to the Pragati Hospital representatives Harikrishna Das and Venkata Ramana.-Staff Reporter

Rs 310.72 cr for floodbanks

Srikakulam: Orders sanctioning Rs.310.72 crore for provision flood banks to the Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers in the district had been issued by the Government. According to a press release by the office of the Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao here on Thursday, the split up is Rs.212.57 crore for Vamsadhara and Rs.98.15 crore for the Nagavali. Succumbs to burns

Kakinada: A woman Gummadi Suryudu (70), who suffered severe burns while cooking on a stove at her home in Kandrakota village, died the government general hospital here on Thursday. The Peddapuram police have registered the case.
