Protests in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (Somalia): The Government on Saturday indefinitely postponed plans to forcibly disarm Mogadishu as hundreds of residents burned tires, looted vehicles and said they wouldn't give up their guns. One person was killed and four persons were wounded during the protest. About 400 protesters gathered at Tribunka Square in a southern neighbourhood of Mogadishu, shouting ``Down, down with Ethiopia,'' in reference to troops from the neighbouring country that helped the transitional Government's takeover of the capital from Islamists. One witness to the protest said at least seven persons were wounded by gunfire, while nurses at Medina Hospital said one dead government soldier and four wounded people were brought to the hospital.
