BANGALORE: Tension and chaos prevailed at Mysore Bank Circle on Monday when a group of Samata Sainik Dal and Komu Souharda Vedike activists attempted to burn a banner containing pictures of Bharat Mata/ Bhuvaneshwari and some leaders of Hindu organisations.

The activists were protesting against the use of the pictures of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Basaveshwara and other progressive leaders during the ongoing Virat Hindu Sammelanas being organised in different parts of the State on the occasion of the birth centenary celebrations of the second Sarasanghachalak of RSS M.S. Golwalkar. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ulsoorgate Sub Division, B.B. Ashok Kumar said tension prevailed when the activists attempted to burn the banner. However, police who were on the spot foiled the attempt to burn the banner, he said.

Meanwhile, Kannada Chaluvali Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj, who was leading another protest against use of helmets, learnt about the incident and intervened. He was told that the activists were burning the Bhuvaneshwari picture. Soon, a clash ensued between the groups compelling the police to use force to disperse them.

Mr. Kumar said while the Vatal group had taken police permission to hold the protest, the other two groups had not. The Ulsoorgate Police have registered cases of attempt to incite communal disharmony and wrongful restraint against the leaders of Samata Sainik Dal and Komu Souharda Vedike. They registered a case of wrongful restraint against Vatal Nagaraj and others, the ACP added.
