ANANTAPUR: The State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued an ultimatum to the State Government here on Friday to reclaim all Government and assigned lands occupied by the rich and the influential persons and distribute them among the landless poor. Addressing a public meeting here at the conclusion of the two-day State Committee meeting CPI(M) State Secretary and Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu said the party would occupy such lands and distribute it among the eligible poor, if the Government fails to take up the exercise within three months.
He also cautioned the Government against touching the lands in possession of the poor and the middle class. The CPI (M) leader termed `shameless' the mudslinging by the Congress and the TDP leaders on the land issue.
Power crisis
He also came down heavily against the Government on erratic power supply and cautioned the political parties that split of the State would hinder the development all regions. On the water related issues he said the Government approach was instigating regional differences and suggested a water policy to overcome all such problems.
Earlier, the party leaders and activists took out a procession in the town.
Awareness campaign
Meanwhile, the party decided to take up an awareness campaign against "anti-people" policies of the State and Central Governments.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Raghavulu said the campaign would be held from February 1 to 8 at the district, constituency and the mandal levels through meetings, protests and demonstrations. The campaign was planned to exert pressure on the Government to allocate funds for education, health and welfare sectors. Neglect of these sectors in the last three budgets had led to their collapse, he said.
