Activists to stop trains on February 11

BANGALORE: As part of the third phase of its five-phase agitation programme, the Akhila Karnataka Gadi Horata Samiti will observe a "railway bandh" demonstration across the State on February 11 demanding immediate implementation of the long-pending railway projects, including the Chamarajanagar-Mettupalyam line and the upgradation of railway stations in the State.

Samiti president and MLA Vatal Nagaraj told presspersons here on Saturday that over 400 organisations and many trade union bodies had extended support for the bandh.

The samiti would hold protest demonstration at 500 select places. It would stop all trains across the State from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on February 11, he said.

He urged the Railway authorities not to run any trains on the bandh day and give advance information to the passengers entering the State from other States about the bandh.

The authorities concerned should bear the responsibility if any inconvenience was caused to the passengers on that day, he added.

Kannada Vedike president and former MLA, K. Prabhakara Reddy, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti president N. Murthy and Ambedkar Prachara Samiti president C.N. Ramu spoke.
