BANGALORE: The 67th all-India University athletics championship for men and women will get underway at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on January 25. The five-day event, which is being organised by the Bangalore University, has received record entries from 124 universities across the country and over 2000 athletes are expected to take part.
Strong challenge
The host, Karnataka is also fielding a strong squad, which includes national performers like Mohd. Mudassir, Bindu Rani and Shilpa Sundar among others. The half marathon event is scheduled for January 28 from Devomachohalli, Tavarkere on Magadi Road on the outskirts of the city to Gnanabharathi Campus in Kenegeri. On the inaugural day, Bangalore University will honour 66 sportspersons who brought laurels to the University in 2005-2006 and they will be presented with cash awards, said Prof. H.A. Ranganath, Vice-Chancellor of the Bangalore University, who briefed the media. The Bangalore University teams: Men: Mohd. Mudassir, Gopal, G.N. Pryaktha, M.P. Thimmaiah, Sachin Francis, M.S. Nagaraj, Binoy Mathew, Ranjit Shetty, Jose George, Nandish and Rangappa. Women: Bindu Rani, M. Revathim Viruja Aachar, Shilka Abraham, R.
