A top official of the BCAS, who supervises security of airports, has already reached Thiruvananthapuram international airport on Thursday to carry out investigations into the incident, Airport sources told The Hindu . Sources said the inquiry by the official is to find out how the sharp metal object found its way into the overhead luggage compartment of the aircraft. The official would also look into whether any security lapse had taken place in Thiruvananthapuram airport and will recommend steps to the Civil Aviation authorities and the airline to plug the loopholes, if any. The flight, EK 523, which was scheduled to depart Thiruvananthapuram international airport at 4.30 a.m, was delayed following the incident.
