Rushdie says he too experienced racism

Sunny Sebastian

JAIPUR: Novelist Salman Rushdie, talking about racism in the context of the Big Brother show, said only when one experienced it one would know. However he felt Shilpa Shetty had always the option of quitting.

"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen," he suggested, during an interaction with presspersons on the sidelines of the Jaipur Literature Festival here, on Sunday. He wished Shilpa well and hoped she would win the show. "In the England boarding school I experienced it. It used to be trivial school boyish thing but still it hurt. My sister living in London long back was the target of racist attack but these are all long time back. I don't want to stretch it too much."
