Motor strike on Thursday

Staff Reporter

KOCHI : Goods vehicles across the State will indefinitely keep off the road from Thursday, in protest against the steep hike in insurance premium. Private bus owners have given a call for a day-long stir on the day, over the same issue.

All goods vehicles will join the strike, in response to the call given by the All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners' Association, said a statement issued here by the Kerala State Lorry Owners' Federation.

Under the revised premium, two-wheeler owners who had to pay Rs.135 a year as premium will now have to pay more than twice that sum. Cars owners who now pay Rs.500 to Rs.700 (for different categories of cars) will henceforth have to pay Rs.670 to Rs.2,500.
