One killed, 7 injured in ULFA attacks

Guwahati: One person was killed and seven were injured in two incidents as the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) carried out attacks for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, even as the Army continued its offensive against the banned group.

One person was killed on the spot and two were injured in a grenade attack at the crowded Bohuri bazaar in lower Assam's Barpeta district, police said. The explosion caused panic, and people ran for cover. The rebels managed to escape before the police reached the spot.

Earlier on Sunday, the ULFA exploded a bomb near the Bongaigaon railway station, injuring five people.

Police said the bomb was fixed on a motorcycle. In a similar attack in Tinsukia district on Saturday, two Hindi-speaking people were killed and 10 injured. — PTI
