PDP leader escapes bid on life

Srinagar: A Hizb-ul Mujahideen militant and a woman were killed in separate incidents on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir, while a People's Democratic Party councillor escaped an attempt on his life, official sources said.

The body of Hizb militant Zahoor Ahmad Shah was recovered by the police from Nela Najwan area of Kangan, 40 kms from here.

The police also recovered the body of a young woman, identified as Khalida Akhter, from Buddan village in Baramulla district. Akhter, a resident of Sheeri, was abducted shortly after midnight on Saturday and later killed.

Meanwhile, PDP's Srinagar councillor Tanvir Sadiq escaped unhurt when unidentified militants opened fire at him while he, along with Municipal Corporation health officer Dr. Shafqat Hussain, was touring his Maideen Sahib constituency in Lal Bazar area of the city on Saturday. No one was injured in the brief shootout.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the incident. — PTI
