15 injured in J&K grenade attack

HELPLESS: Relatives in distress as victims of a grenade attack in Pattan are being brought to a hospital in Srinagar on Monday.

SRINAGAR: Even as the police recovered 100 kg of high intensity explosives here, at least 15 civilians were injured in a grenade explosion at Pattan on the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway on Monday.

The police said militants hurled the grenade at a security force convoy. However, it missed the target and exploded on the road. Those who were seriously wounded were taken to Srinagar. The condition of one of them was stated to be critical.

During a search operation, the Srinagar police recovered arms and ammunition from an abandoned hideout at Khimber under the Zakura police station.

Senior Superintendent of Police Syed Ahfadul Mujtaba said 100 kg of explosives, two magazines, two wireless sets, three under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) shells, eight pistol rounds, 10 pages of matrix and a seal and a letter pad of the Al-Badar outfit were recovered.
