U.S., Australia and U.K. ask citizens to keep off Assam

GUWAHATI: The United States, Australia and the United Kingdom have advised their citizens to review travel plans to the northeast, especially Assam, in view of the series of bomb blasts and recent attacks on migrant Bihari workers.

On January 11, the U.S. Consulate-General, Calcutta, issued a warden message to alert all U.S. citizens travelling to and residing in the northeast of the "serious security threat.''

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia, asked Australian citizens to review their travel plans to Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura.

The U.K. Foreign Office Travel Advicementioned the ULFA attacks and said although foreigners were not targets of violence, attacks could be indiscriminate.
