LUCKNOW : Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Monday demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged rape of two girl students of a madrasa at Kareli in Allahabad.
Ms. Mayawati, who on Sunday visited the madrasa and met the victims, said Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav claimed to be a Muslim benefactor but girls belonging to that community were not safe under the Samajwadi Party regime. For that matter, even others felt insecure after sunset, and elected representatives feared for their lives, she told reporters here.
On Mr. Yadav taking a dip in the Sangam in Allahabad on Saturday, she said the "panic-stricken" Chief Minister wanted to cleanse himself. Demanding the dismissal of the Government, she said Governor T.V. Rajeswar should take note of the "mafia raj" and exercise his constitutional powers. Later, Ms. Mayawati met the Governor and submitted a memorandum demanding the imposition of President's rule. It mentioned the killings of children at Nithari, the Kavita Rani murder case, and the rape incidents at Madiyahu in Jaunpur district and Kareli.
