CHENNAI: State Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi underscored the importance of preservation and propagation of the Tamil language and culture especially among the youth . Inaugurating a two-day Muthamizh Vizha at Prof. Dhanabalan Women's College at Kelambakkam here on Tuesday, the Minister noted that holding of such Muthamizh Vizha created greater awareness among students and helped them to learn the glorious past of the language and culture. Mr. Ponmudi said even though he was one of the Ministers in the DMK Ministry, he still relished the 18-year period as a college professor. The Minister also highlighted the steps initiated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for getting due recognition to Tamil language. R.V. Dhanabalan, college president said people of the State should take pride that Tamil language had been recognised and the efforts taken by the DMK Government towards promotion and preservation of the language.
