Kamal opens hotel

CHENNAI: The crowd at The Checkers hotel waited with bated breath for Kamal Haasan. As soon as he stepped on the premises, there was a surge towards him. He inaugurated the new hotel at Little Mount, Mount Road. After lighting the lamp with Vinolia Lobo, honorary director, The Spanish Language and Culture, he made a quick exit while the rest of the crowd headed for a cultural programme.

The Checkers, a unit of Rohini Hotels, has 115 rooms, six banquet halls, a restobar, four restaurants and a patisserie. It will open in a month.
