Easy win for Evergreen

Hyderabad: Evergreen CC defeated Continental CC by six wickets in the limited overs knockout cricket tournament for A Division teams here on Thursday.

The scores: Continental CC 130 (Anil Kaushik 46) lost to Evergreen CC 131 for four (Vijay Goud 56).

Soundarya feted

It was a day to remember for Y. Soundarya of Nizamabad, member of the Indian team which won the four-nation hockey tournament in Japan recently.

She received a cash incentive of Rs. 15,000 from Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the valedictory function of the Federation Cup women's hockey championship at Pulivendla on Thursday.

While Y.S. Anand Reddy gave Rs. 10,000, a sum of Rs. 5,000 was given by Young Men's Guild of Pulivendla for her achievements.

The CM also presented Rs. 5,000 each to Shamshad Begum, the first international woman referee from the State, and Janardhana Reddy, former International umpire and retired APSEB official for his contribution to the sport.

SBH `B' in final

State Bank of Hyderabad `B' defeated The Hindu by two runs and entered the final of the JDA Corporate Cup cricket tournament on Thursday.

SBH `B' 129 for seven (Rajeev Kadve 37) bt The Hindu 127.

Alwal Star in last four

Alwal Star FC defeated Munsif FC 2-1 to enter the semifinals of the K. Prabhaker Reddy challenge shield football tournament on Thursday. Anju and Sandeep scored for the winner while Sarfraz reduced the margin for Munsif.

Harshita beats Pooja

Harshita B. Rao defeated Pooja 6-1 in the girls' under 10 singles of the Shantinagar Club open sub-junior tennis tournament on Thursday.

Girls: under-10: Saranya bt Eshana 6-3; Kalyani bt Vimla 6-4; Nishita bt Radhika 6-3; Srinikita got w/o from Raveena Reddy.

Run for WMG

A run to create awareness about the World Military Games (to be held in October) will be organised in Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Sunday.

The run will begin at the Lal Bahadur stadium in Hyderabad and culminate at the Parade grounds in Secunderabad.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will be the chief guest.
