Assam bags men's team championship

VIJAYAWADA: Assam won the men's team championship in the Indian round garnering 1910 points thus erasing the previous record (1851) set by Andhra Pradesh in the 27th Cherukuri Volga memorial senior National archery championship here on Saturday. Manipur (1909) and Steel Sports Control Board (1865) finished second and third respectively.

Manipur's T.H. Sanatamba Singh created a new overall record picking up 657 out of 720 points in the 50m and 30m events.

He erased the A. Durgaiah's (AP) 634/720, created in 2004 Jamshedpur Nationals.

In 30m, Assam's Orkey Basumatray (336) bettered SSCB's Gangmei Robert's record of 310/360.

In the FITA qualifying rounds for recurve, Jayant Talukdar and Rahul Banerjee (both SSCB) are leading the pack in 90m and 70m, while Dola Banerjee (Indian Railways), C. Sworo (Nagaland) and Reena Kumari (Indian Railways) are on top in 70m and 60m events.

Andhra Pradesh's Ch Lenin and Jhanu Hansda of Jharkhand are in the forefront in the compound segment.

Assam, Steel Sports Control Board, Karnataka, Assam Rifles, Manipur, Indo-Tibetan Boarder Police, Sports Authority of India and Jharkhand have qualified for the Guwahati National Games.

Indian round (men): 50m: T.H. Sanatamba Singh (Manipur) 326/360, S. Robert (SSCB) 320/360, Tilit Aboh (319/360).

30m: Orkey Basumatray (Assam) 336/360, Bishunu Ravinath (Assam) 334/360, T.H. Sanatamba Singh (Manipur) 331/360. — Sports Reporter
