Focus was on the cultural heritage of the State
BANGALORE: Prasiddhi School, Vasanthanagar, celebrated its annual day at Gurunanak Bhavan recently. The programme was a tribute to the golden jubilee celebrations of Karnataka and it was aptly named "Suvarna Vaibhava".
The entire programme was conducted in Kannada and it focussed on the rich cultural heritage of the State. The programme began with a dance presented by the students of pre-primary section to the song, "Hachchevu Kannadada deepa".
The events, which included presentations on Onake Obavva, Sri Basaveshwara, depiction of the harvest season, Kannada plays Jataka.com and English Premi, Dasara tableau, Vande Mataram and Yakshagana, left the large gathering of parents spellbound.
Geetha Ramanujam, Principal, National PU College, was the chief guest and Dhanalakshmi Cheluvarayaswamy the guest of honour.
Addressing the students, Ms. Geetha Ramanujam stressed the need for parents to more loving and caring, spend valuable time with their children and be sensitive to their needs. She also spoke about the responsibilities of the students.
Meritorious students received prizes for their accomplishments. Principal Meenakshi V. presented the school report.
Sports meet
National Public School, Koramangala, held its annual sports meet recently. A whole range of events was lined up for the day and it was a fun-filled sports meet not only for the students but also for the parents. Those that had the audience applauding and cheering were the relays, "basketball race" and the "froggy head leap".
The event culminated with more than 400 certificates being given to the students along with the trophies for the champions.
The cheer group and the music band belting out popular songs was the highlight of the event.
Annual day
ITI Central School, Dooravaninagar, celebrated its annual day, Blossoms 2006, at Vidyamandir Open Air Theatre recently. P.K. Bose, General Manager, ITI Limited, was the chief guest. Sunitha Bose distributed prizes to meritorious students.
The variety entertainment programme included a special item on the thespian late Rajkumar and a Kannada drama Sri Krishna Sandhana. Tiny tots of the school presented various dances. The performance of the students left the audience spellbound.
School principal Manjula Devi M.N. presented the school report. Headmistress Nimalakumari welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests, while vice-principal Lakshmi V. Rao proposed a vote of thanks.
Tailoring classes

Sanjay Udhani, president (vocational services), Rotary Interact Club, inaugurated tailoring classes at RBANM's High School (Main), Gangadhara Chetty Road, recently.
The Interact Club has donated four sewing machines to the school and the classes will be conducted regularly for interested students.
T.V. Annaswamy, president of the school, A.K. Ananthnarain, honorary secretary, and Vasantha, member of the trust, were present.
Folk dances and songs
Al-Ameen High School, Hosur Road celebrated its annual day recently.
The programme focussed on the achievements of the State and brought out the cultural heritage from both the bygone era and the more contemporary period.
Children in colourful attires and ornaments presented folk dances and songs. It was a memorable event not only for the students but also for the parents.
Rhyme time
Venkat Group of Institutions, Rajajinagar, will organise a two-day Rhyme Time and Graduation Day at Ambedkar Bhavan from Thursday.
Actor Vijaya Raghavendra, singer Shashidhar Kote and Doordarshan director Mahesh Joshi are the chief guests on the first day.
Actor Shruthi, dancer Vyjayanthi Kashi, director S. Mohan and singer Kusuma will be the chief guests at the graduation ceremony.
