Man held for trying to marry again

BANGALORE: Amid high drama, the JP Nagar police on Wednesday arrested a "married man" who was about to tie the knot to a girl by allegedly concealing his marital status.

Taking the invitees and the bride's family by surprise, the policemen rushed to the kalyana mantapa on Bannerghatta Road and took into custody the groom, Kishore Kumar (28), a microbiologist with a leading biotechnology company in the city.

Kishore Kumar, a native of KGF, was scheduled to marry Namitha, a postgraduate in business administration and a resident of Wilson Garden.

Police said despite being married and having a 11-month-old son, Kishore Kumar had allegedly concealed his marital status and agreed to marry Namitha with the intention of getting huge dowry from her parents.

A few minutes before the marriage was to be solemnised, Kishore Kumar's first wife, Uma, who hails from KGF, came to the kalyana mantapa. She said that Kishore had married her at a temple near Sajjan Rao Circle in Visveswarapuram two years ago and they were living in Rajajinagar, along with their son. The police arrived at the venue soon after and took Kishore Kumar into custody. The J.P. Nagar Police Inspector P. Konappa Reddy said upon investigation, it was learnt that parents of Kishore Kumar were unaware of his first marriage. Kishore Kumar and Uma belonged to different communities and the parents had arranged the present marriage within the community, he added.

However, by late evening, Kishore Kumar and Uma decided to reconcile. Mr. Reddy said that since the case has already been filed, the police would file the charge sheet before the court.

Killed in accident

Venkatesh (37), an autorickshaw driver, died on the spot when a truck hit his vehicle on Tumkur Road near Widia in Peenya Traffic Police Station limits on Tuesday night. Police said the incident occurred when Venkatesh was taking a U-turn on the highway. The deceased was a resident of Manjunathanagar in Peenya.

Suicide

A 37-year-old epilepsy patient allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Hanumanthanagar police station limits.

Police gave the name of the deceased as Nagendra, a resident of Banashankari I Stage. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when the deceased did not open the doors of his room, police said.

Robbed

Four persons allegedly robbed a businessman of Rs. 15,000 and valuables in Malleswaram police station limits on Tuesday night.

Police said Khadar Pasha, who was running a snooker club on Malleswaram 14th Cross, was on his way to home at Yeshwanthpur. The miscreants waylaid his car near Malleswaram 15th Cross and decamped with valuables at knife-point, police said.

Murdered

Jayaram (38), a resident of Ramapura in Hoskote taluk, was found murdered in his village on Wednesday.

According to Hoskote police, Jayaram consumed liquor along with his friends on Tuesday evening. A quarrel ensued between the friends. Jayaram's friends allegedly crushed his head with a boulder and threw the body on the outskirts of the village.
