Lokayukta visits Malleswaram police station

BANGALORE: Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde and Upa Lokayukta G. Patri Basavana Goud on Wednesday evening made a surprise visit to the Malleswaram police station following a compliant about collection high towing fee.

One Prakash had telephoned Mr. Hegde and complained that a sub-inspector at the police station had charged Rs. 500 for releasing his vehicle that was towed from a no-parking zone near ICICI Bank in Malleswaram. Prakash said the sub-inspector issued him a receipt for Rs. 300 and claimed that it was a "practice" here to collect Rs. 500.

Mr. Hegde, Mr. Goud and Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) Rangaswamy Naik visited the no-parking zone and then came to the Malleswaram police station. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.N. Reddi, who came to the police station, said he would inquire into Prakash's complaint.
