NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government's Health Department will acquire 430 ambulances by next year and 30 ambulances would be added to its existing fleet of 135 ambulances every month. The decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to review the functioning of the Health and Family Welfare Department. With an adequate number of ambulances in the Capital, the Health Department would be able to streamline its emergency services. It has also been decided to make functional three trauma centres ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Two more trauma centres have also been planned for the city. Ms. Dikshit instructed the Health Department to allow functional autonomy a to few select hospitals to ensure smooth management.
