Humpy wins first game

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a Slav Defence, Koneru Humpy won the first game against J. Deepan Chakkravarthy in the eight-game MAYTAS Vizag Challenger Trophy at the VUDA Children's Theatre here on Friday.

Humpy (white) had an advantage when Deepan played ED5 instead of E5 in the 11th move. As the game progressed, Humpy gained further advantage by playing QH5 in the 17th move and went a queen exchange up in the 22nd move. Deepan resigned when his king was about to be mated. — Special Correspondent
