Students lathicharged in A.P. town

KURNOOL: The police lathicharged activists of the AISF and the SFI when they tried to disrupt a meeting of Commissioner of Intermediate Board Chakrapani here on Wednesday.

The student unions were agitating against a proposal to stop recruitment of staff for aided colleges and their closure. The protesters barged into the meeting hall, ransacked the furniture and raised slogans.

Student leaders condemned the police action and again gathered at the Collectorate and staged a dharna.

They said the protest would be intensified and called for bandh of educational institutions in the district on Thursday.
