KARIMNAGAR: The district police have chanced upon arms dumps belonging to the CPI(ML) Janashakti and Praja Pratighatana group naxalites and recovered a huge quantity of ammunition and explosive materials. Stating this to newsmen here on Thursday, Devendra Singh Chauhan, SP, said that on credible information, the police launched combing operations in Lenkalagadda village of Mahadevpur mandal and unearthed the ammunition at separate dumps. From Pratighatana naxalites, the police recovered 500 rounds of Springfield rifle ammunition. From the Janashakhthi dump, 245 rounds of SLR, 97 8 mm rifle, 201 9 amm pistol, 71 .43 rounds, 30 rounds each of 12 boregun and .455, carbine magazines, etc., were recovered. Earlier, disillusioned with party ideology, Khammam district pratighatana group DCS Dasari Veeraiah alias Shankaranna (50), Khammam district commander Anumula Radha alias Radhakka (20) and deputy commander Mogili Mallesham alias Chanti (22) surrendered along with their weapons.
Gelatine sticks seized
Rajahmundry: The East Godavari district police seized a massive quantity of ammunition near sanatorium, Kontamuru, on Thursday. B. Srinivasulu, SP, said that 2,000 gelatine sticks, 1,500 electric detonators, 2,500 ordinary detonators, three bags of ammonium nitrate and five bundles of wires from one Yedla Sridhar Reddy, a driver. Sridhar and A. Ramesh, a worker in the godown, were taken into custody. The SP said that Satish Reddy of Chityal of Nalgonda district was owner of the godown and he had licence for supplying gelatine sticks, but did not have permission to keep them in such large quantity in a secret place. The owner of the godown is at large.
