Two killed

TIRUCHI : Two persons were killed when a gelatine stick exploded at Ootathur village near Siruganur in the district on Friday. The victims were identified as Subramani (47) and Krishnamurthy, both from Oothathur.

Police sources here said they had placed two gelatine sticks to blast the rock under the earth of the patta land belonging to Subramani. While one of the gelatine stick exploded, the two went nearby to clear the stone fragments, when the second gelatine stick exploded.

Special buses

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Tiruchi Region, will operate 60 special buses on February 16 and 17 to Omandhur in connection with the `Mahasivarathri' festival. A press release from the Transport Corporation here said the special buses would be operated from Central bus stand, Chathiram bus stand, Thuraiyur, Musiri and Perambalur to Omanthur for the benefit of the general public.

Review meeting

The Dairy Development Minister, U. Mathivanan, reviewed the production of milk at a meeting held at the Tiruchi District Cooperative Milk Producers Union here on Friday. The need for increasing the procurement of milk day-by-day was discussed during the meeting.

The Minister advised the officials to disburse cash without any delay to the milk societies and procure milk from the farmers.

Students chosen

Fifty-five Commerce students were chosen for Business Process Outsourcing jobs on the first of the three-day campus interview conducted by Tata Consultancy Services at the St. Joseph's College on Friday. While 39 were selected for data entry jobs, the rest were chosen for voice-based operations. On Saturday also the interview will be conducted for commerce students and on Sunday the programme will be exclusive for arts and science students, said Francis Gnanasekaran, Co-ordinator of Placement Cell and Reader in Commerce.

Nominations

The Centre for Women's Studies, Bharathidasan University, has invited nominations from women belonging to various walks of life for the purpose of honouring them on International Women's Day on March 8.

The nominations must contain a brief biography, evidences of achievement in respective fields, address with phone number, educational qualification, number of years of service or work, earlier awards (copies must be enclosed), justification for the award, publications made, bio-data, supportive documents and other information the applicants may wish to give. In a statement issued here today, the Centre Director N. Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 83.74 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Friday. The inflow was 231 cusecs and the discharge was 2,000 cusecs. — Staff Reporter
