Police recruitment procedure lauded

BANGALORE: Home Minister M.P. Prakash on Friday commended the State police for receiving ISO9001:2000 certification for the recruitment procedure it adopted to appoint police constables and sub-inspectors.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Prakash noted that the department was in the final stage of recruiting 4,417 police constables and 388 sub-inspectors, for which the physical fitness and written tests had already been completed.

He also spoke about the role played by his predecessor M. Mallikarjun Kharge in encouraging the department to evolve such a method.

As many as 1,85,853 candidates had taken the written test for police constable posts, for which the recruitment notification was issued on August 17, 2006. The test was held on October 29 and answer keys were announced the same day. Even the marks obtained by candidates were announced on November 25 and December 1.

The notification for recruitment of police sub-inspectors was issued on September 25, 2006 and the physical fitness test was conducted in four phases at 21 centres between November 24 and January 11. The written test was conducted on February 4 in which 18,375 candidates participated.

In his presentation on the recruitment procedure, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Training and Recruitment) Sunil Agarwal said the entire procedure, including documents and the process, had been standardised.
