Mature approach

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has answered all the questions with a lot of clarity and political wisdom (Interview, Feb. 12). His lucid observation on the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal award — that neither the quantum available to Karnataka has decreased nor has Tamil Nadu's share increased much — reflects his mature approach to the issue. He is right in saying that if the people of both the States reflect deeply on this, there would be peace.

Mr. Karunanidhi's statement that neither State has lost after the Cauvery award is absolutely correct. There can be no better judgment under the circumstances. The opposition to the award in Karnataka will subside if the leaders of the national parties in the State display the same determination as Mr. Karunanidhi.
