The editorial "A continuing worry" (Feb. 12) voices the concerns of the ordinary people when it says inflation imposes a tax on the poor who bear the brunt of the price rise in commodities of daily use. It is true that monetary measures alone cannot solve the problem and only a "multi-pronged strategy" will help in containing price rise.

The production of wheat, pulses, and sugar should go up. The Government's policy, including the monetary policy, should encourage farmers at the grassroots level. The common man expects the Finance Minister to address the issue during the budget session.
