`No' to Parzania

This refers to the report that theatre owners of Gujarat have decided not to screen Parzania in the State, fearing disturbances (Feb. 7). Earlier the fringe Hindutva elements stalled the screening of Aamir Khan's film Fanaa. Now there is an unofficial ban on Parzania, which is based on the disappearance of a young boy during the Gujarat riots. When the film has already been cleared by the Censor Board, such a ban is unwarranted and is, in fact, illegal. One wonders whether Gujarat is not part of India.

The film reminds the people of the communal riots. Gujarat is peaceful now and is among the most advanced States. What is the need to remind the people of the riots, which are best forgotten? The theatre owners' decision not to screen the film is welcome. In fact, peace-loving people should, on their own accord, refuse to see the film. It is the Gandhian way of refusing to look at the distorting of facts.
