Body found

TIRUCHI: The body of a 23-year-old man was found near the railway track at Mutharasanallur in the Tiruchi-Erode section on Tuesday. He was identified as Prabhakaran. The Government Railway Police said he was hit by a train.

Scheme extended

The Railway Board has extended the last date for joining the Liberalised Health Scheme to December 31 for railway pensioners, according to P. Sarangapani, general secretary, Southern Railway Pensioners' Association. In a press release, he said the scheme was extended as a special case. The association has appealed to the railway pensioners to make use of the opportunity for having medical treatment in railway hospitals.

Protest by hostellers

A section of inmates of Adi Dravidar Welfare boys hostel squatted on the Collector Office Road on Tuesday, demanding water facility in their hostel. On receipt on information, the police personnel intervened and asked them to give up their stir. The students later submitted a petition to the authorities.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 83.10 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Tuesday. The inflow was 231 cusecs and the discharge from the dam was 1,500 cusecs.
